I have never been one to allow the economy, circumstances, or a recession to dictate my attitude and actions. But to do that you need to have some guidelines and principles to guide you.
Here is my Top 10 List for Possibility Minded Business Owners To Grow During Changing Times…
- Forget about cutting back on marketing expenses… increase investment in marketing during a soft period.
- Remember, what most people fear and worry about… fails to materialize.
- Forget about waiting out the recession… add profit centers.
- Know, that the harder you work… the more luck you create.
- Forget about maintaining status quo… reinvent yourself and business.
- Remember, when things are changing… opportunities abound, ‘if’ you look for them.
- Know that people don’t care how much you know… until they know how much you care.
- Remember, we can achieve more than we imagine… act on your ideas.
- Remember, “Life’s most urgent question is: What are you doing for others?” - Martin Luther King Jr.
- Know that “Opportunities are usually disguised as hard work so most people don’t recognize them.” - Ann Landers… always be willing to work hard on the right thing.

Everyone enters into self employment for different reasons. It is a tough but rewarding road to travel. There are numerous challenges along the way. If you have ever written a business plan or run a business for a long time, you know there are days that are just plain depressing. Do not lose heart! There is light at the end of the tunnel. In the meantime, you will need a full measure of entrepreneurial strength and diligence.
The Merriam - Webster’s Collegiate Dictionary states that diligence is the attention and care legally expected or required of a person (as a party to a contract)
No doubt you will enter into a number of contracts over the life of your business, so this is an important concept. I have to admit that there are days when I do not ‘feel diligent’ and it is tempting to take a short cut. I have found that the shortcuts are really the longest trips, sometimes.
